Let’s talk about 11’s

Glabella lines, commonly referred to as 11’s, are vertical lines that appear between your brows and result from muscle contractions. When you concentrate, squint, or frown, the muscles between your brows contract, causing your skin to furrow and fold.

These lines are considered “dynamic” because they appear when the brow furrows. But as time goes on, with repeated movement, they become deeper and more permanent. These lines can also worsen with sunlight (Squinting! and not wearing sunscreen), smoking, and exposure to pollution.

To soften and reduce the appearance of 11’s, a common treatment is injections with Botox or Dysport. These neurotoxins temporarily paralyze the muscle activity in that area so the skin cannot furrow or fold. With regular injections, about every 3 to 4 months, the lines will continue to relax and become less noticeable.

How to layer skincare products

Layering skincare products is a piece of cake! A good rule of thumb is to apply products from thinnest to thickest. Here is a basic guide to layering your skincare products like a pro.

This guide reflects products in an average skincare routine. A person’s routine may not include all of the types of products listed, so skip over irrelevant steps.

It’s important to consult with your esthetician on which products to use and how to use them. Always follow the directions on the label and the directions from your provider.

Step 1. Cleanser

Always start by washing your face! Morning and night.

Step 2. Toner

Step 3. Serum

If you use multiple serums, apply from thinnest to thickest. Depending on the serum, it may be important that it’s only used during the day, or only used in the evening. Always consult the label and your esthetician.

Step 4. Eye cream

Can be used once or twice a day. Always consult the label or an esthetician.

Step 5. Moisturizer

This is key to “sealing” in all the products you just applied. Can be used morning and night, depending on your skin type and the product.

Step 6. Sunscreen

Arguably, the most important step. Use only in the morning and reapply every 2 hours throughout the day.

FAQ: IPL Laser Hair Removal

We get a lot of questions about IPL laser hair reduction. Here are some of the most common ones!

Q: I’m interested in this treatment, how do I start?

A: A consultation is required prior to laser hair reduction to ensure that you’re a good candidate for this treatment. The laser is attracted to the pigmentation in the hair follicle, so the darker the hair, the better.

Q: How do I prepare for treatment?

A: Shave the area 1-2 days before treatment. Avoid sun exposure, spray tans, tanning beds at least 2 weeks before, and in between treatments.

Q: Does it hurt?!

A: Most patients say the laser feels like a hot rubber band snap or bee sting, and it’s very tolerable. Typically the anticipation is the worst part!

Q: Why does it take so many sessions?

A: There are multiple stages of hair growth and the laser targets those in the active growth phase. It’s important to have a series of sessions, spaced 4 weeks apart, for the treatment to be most effective.

Q: I have sensitive skin, will the laser damage it?

A: We always do a test pulse to ensure there are no adverse effects from the laser. This is also why consultations are important prior to getting treatment.

Q: When will I see results?

A: This varies client to client! Hair may appear thinner and fallout 1-3 weeks after one treatment, but it takes multiple sessions to notice optimal results.

Q: Can I shave between treatments?

A: Yes! But refrain from waxing, tweezing, threading, Nair and pretty much every other form of hair removal.

Let’s Talk Hair Loss

Let’s talk about hair loss 💁‍♂️💁‍♀️

Experiencing hair loss is extremely common among men and women and there are many factors that can cause it. On average, a person will lose 50-100 hairs per DAY. However, if hair is falling out in clumps, you’re noticing circular patches of thinning, or simply concerned, it’s time to visit a dermatologist.

1.  Family  History

The most common cause of hair loss happens with aging. This condition, androgenic alopecia, is hereditary. It usually occurs gradually and in predictable patterns.

2. Hormonal Changes & Medical Conditions

A variety of conditions can cause permanent or temporary hair loss. Hormonal changes due to pregnancy, childbirth, menopause and thyroid problems. Medical conditions include scalp infections, alopecia areata, which is immune system related, and a hair-pulling disorder called trichotillomania.

3. Medication

Hair loss can be a side effect of certain drugs, such as those used for cancer, arthritis, depression, heart problems, gout and high blood pressure.

4. Stress

Many people experience a general thinning of hair several months after a physical or emotional shock. This type of hair loss is temporary.

5. Hairstyles & Treatments

Excessive hairstyling or hairstyles that pull your hair tight, such as pigtails or cornrows, can cause a type of hair loss called traction alopecia. Hot-oil hair treatments and perms can also cause hair to fall out. If scarring occurs, hair loss could be permanent.
