Micro-Needling

What is Micro-needling and how does it work?
Micro-needling therapy is also known as collagen induction therapy. It is a minimally-invasive non-surgical and non-ablative procedure for facial rejuvenation that involves the use of a micro-needling device to create controlled skin injury.
As each fine needle punctures the skin, it creates a channel or micro-wound. The controlled injury triggers the body to fill these micro-wounds by producing new collagen and elastin in the papillary dermis. In addition, new capillaries are formed. This neovascularisation and neocollagenesis following treatment lead to a reduction of scars and skin rejuvenation, i.e., improved skin texture, firmness, and hydration.
Professional micro-needling is considered to be one of the safest skin treatment procedures.
What is skin needling used for?
Micro-needling is effectively used for:
-
Reducing scars (including hypertrophic scars) caused by acne, surgery or thermal burns
-
Reducing fine lines and deep wrinkles
-
Dyspigmentation e.g in melasma
-
Tightening sagging skin.
What should I expect from my first treatment?
We’ll have you arrive about 30 minutes before your treatment to apply a topical numbing cream. Patients have described the sensation of micro-needling similar to brush sensation. The treatment only takes about 30 minutes. You may experience some redness following your treatment as well as skin peeling. This can be offset by applying SkinCeuticals Hydrating B5 Gel.
How many treatments will I need?
We recommend a series of 3 treatments which should be performed 4-6 weeks apart. For best results, it is not recommended to wait more than 6 weeks between treatments.
What device do you use?
We use the Collagen P.I.N. device which can be used up to a 3mm depth and has 36 needle points per tip. This is one of the best devices on the market due to the depth and points that can be micro-channeled into the skin.
