How does laser hair removal work?

A laser produces a beam of highly concentrated light. The light emitted is well absorbed by the pigment located in hair follicles. The laser pulses for a fraction of a second, just long enough to vaporize the pigment, disabling numerous follicles at a time to eliminate or significantly impede the hair’s growth. We use the highest technology lasers with unparalleled treatment efficacies in hair removal, especially thinner hairs that other lasers simply cannot target.

Is laser hair removal painful?

The laser treatment itself can cause a slight tingling or heat sensation. With the patented DCD cooling system of the laser, patients tolerate the procedure very well. Because some areas of the body are more sensitive than others, topical anesthesia can be an option but is rarely required.

How long do the treatments take?

The treatment time can vary considerably depending on the size of the area treated, and the particular technique used. A small area such as the upper lip may take only five minutes, while a larger area like the back or legs may take up to 45 minutes. Since the laser affects only those hairs in the growing stage, and not all hairs will be in this stage at the same time, several treatments will most likely be needed to effectively remove all the hair from one area. Subsequent sessions will be scheduled at least one month apart. By this time you will probably begin to notice the re-growth of hairs that were previously in the resting stage.

How many treatments are required?

Although the FDA has approved several types of laser for permanent hair reduction, results can vary. An individual’s metabolism, hormonal level, hair quality and a number of hair follicles can all affect the outcome.

Moreover, normal hair goes through a growth cycle in three stages: the anagen, or growing phase; the telogen, or resting phase; and the catagen, or transitional phase. During the anagen phase, hair is susceptible to the laser’s energy, but during the telogen and catagen phases, it is resistant.

At any one time, various percentages of body hair will be in each of these phases, making complete removal unlikely without multiple sessions.

Typically five or six treatments are necessary to achieve the desired result.

How many laser hair removal treatments will I need?

The number of treatments needed varies depending on the area being treated, your hair type, skin tone, and individual hair growth cycles. On average, most clients need 6 to 8 sessions for optimal results. However, some areas may require more or fewer sessions.
For the most accurate recommendation, we highly suggest scheduling a consultation with one of our specialists. During the consultation, we’ll assess your skin and hair, discuss your goals, and create a personalized treatment plan tailored to your needs.

What is the laser hair removal process like, and what does it feel like?

During a hair reduction session, a handheld device is used to deliver pulses of light to the targeted area. The light targets the pigment in the hair follicle, which helps to slow and reduce future hair growth.
Most people describe the sensation as similar to a light snap of a rubber band against the skin, followed by a brief feeling of warmth. While discomfort is usually minimal, the level of sensation can vary depending on the area being treated and your personal sensitivity.
To ensure your comfort, our device includes a built-in cooling system, we also use ice packs to the area being treated.  In addition, our office offers Pro-Nox, a mix of nitrous oxide and oxygen which can help relieve any pain or discomfort associated with the treatment. Treatments are generally quick, and there’s little to no downtime afterward.

How long should my hair be on the day of my laser hair removal appointment?

Your hair should be freshly shaved the day before your appointment—ideally within 24 hours before your session. The skin should be smooth, but the hair follicle beneath the skin needs to remain intact for the device to effectively target it.
Please avoid waxing, tweezing, or using depilatory creams for at least 4–6 weeks before your appointment, as these methods remove the hair root, which the device needs to target.

Can I go in a sauna or hot tub the same day as my laser hair removal appointment?

No, we recommend
avoiding saunas, hot tubs, steam rooms, and hot showers for at least 24 to 48 hours after your laser hair removal treatment.
Your skin will be more sensitive after treatment, and exposure to heat, steam, and bacteria can increase the risk of irritation, redness, and even infection. Let your skin cool down and heal properly before resuming these activities.
For best results, stick to gentle skincare and avoid excessive heat or sweating right after your session.
