Spooky Skincare
In honor of spooky season, let’s talk spooky skincare. Avoid committing these 9 skin sins.
- Over exfoliating – Exfoliating too often can lead to rough, dehydrated, patchy and flakey skin. Signs of over exfoliation are redness, dryness, flakiness, acne, increased oil production and shine.
- Touching the product dropper to your skin – Dropper applicators should not touch the skin. That gives bacteria the opportunity to enter and contaminate the product.
- Sleeping in makeup – Not removing makeup before bed can lead to inflammation, irritation, premature aging and more.
- Taking skincare advice from influencers – Most of the time, skincare influencers have not done the proper schooling to give accurate advice about the skin. Instead, take advice from dermatologists and licensed aestheticians who see and know your skin.
- Ghosting your appointment – Don’t miss out on the opportunity to give your skin professional treatments. Plus, ghosting appointments usually leads to a no-show or late cancelation fee.
- Not wearing sunscreen – Sunscreen is vital in reducing the risk of skin cancer and premature aging.
- Buying products off of Amazon – Always check to make sure you are buying skincare products from an authorized seller. Shopping skincare from Amazon runs the risk of buying counterfeit or expired products, sometimes at a higher sticker price than the retail one.
- Skipping annual skin exam – Regular skin exams by a dermatologist are important to examine the skin, identify concerns, and screen for early signs or symptoms of skin cancer.
- At home treatments – These usually do more harm than good. It’s best to go to the professionals for any and all treatments.

How to Properly Apply Sunscreen
Did you know that there is a proper way to apply sunscreen?! It’s so important to follow these steps to insure maximum protection against the sun and harmful rays which can cause skin cancer and sun damage to the skin.
How to apply sunscreen:
- Choose a broad-spectrum sunscreen with at least SPF 30
- Apply from head to toe. And we mean it! Commonly overlooked areas are ears, neck, hands and feet. Make sure to not miss those spots.
- Apply 15 minutes before going outside,
- Reapply every 2 hours (again, from head to toe) or more often if your skin is sweaty or wet. Reapply immediately after swimming.

6 Signs to see a Dermatologist
Six reasons it’s time to visit a dermatologist 👨⚕️🥼 And don’t forget about an annual full-body skin exam!
- The skin is irritated and appears to have a rash or hives.
- A mole or freckle has changed. Specifically – size has increased, color has darkened or shape has changed. Also be aware of new moles and freckles appearing on the body.
- There has been an increase in hair loss. On average, people lose between 50-100 hairs per day, but if you notice an increased amount OR feel that your hair has thinned, it is time to visit a dermatologist.
- You are experiencing severe acne that is constant and not going away. While our medical spa has many treatments and products to help clear the skin, for more severe instances, it is best to visit a dermatologist.
- You notice a fungal infection in nails or feet. (Ex: Athlete’s Foot.)
- The face is persistently red and flushed, without an explanation.
Visit our dermatology clinic located at 992 Country Club Road Suite 201 in Eugene, OR 97401. Call (541)485-7546 to schedule an appointment.
