FAQ: IPL Laser Hair Removal
We get a lot of questions about IPL laser hair reduction. Here are some of the most common ones!
Q: I’m interested in this treatment, how do I start?
A: A consultation is required prior to laser hair reduction to ensure that you’re a good candidate for this treatment. The laser is attracted to the pigmentation in the hair follicle, so the darker the hair, the better.
Q: How do I prepare for treatment?
A: Shave the area 1-2 days before treatment. Avoid sun exposure, spray tans, tanning beds at least 2 weeks before, and in between treatments.
Q: Does it hurt?!
A: Most patients say the laser feels like a hot rubber band snap or bee sting, and it’s very tolerable. Typically the anticipation is the worst part!
Q: Why does it take so many sessions?
A: There are multiple stages of hair growth and the laser targets those in the active growth phase. It’s important to have a series of sessions, spaced 4 weeks apart, for the treatment to be most effective.
Q: I have sensitive skin, will the laser damage it?
A: We always do a test pulse to ensure there are no adverse effects from the laser. This is also why consultations are important prior to getting treatment.
Q: When will I see results?
A: This varies client to client! Hair may appear thinner and fallout 1-3 weeks after one treatment, but it takes multiple sessions to notice optimal results.
Q: Can I shave between treatments?
A: Yes! But refrain from waxing, tweezing, threading, Nair and pretty much every other form of hair removal.
